When One EFT Session Isn’t Enough: Recognizing Complex Stress eating habits

Before beginning EFT sessions for stress eating habits, it’s crucial to honestly assess the complexity of your stress eating habits. This helps set realistic expectations about whether one or two sessions will suffice or if a longer commitment is needed.

If your weight is above the healthy range and you are in overweight or obese categories of weight, it’s unlikely that just one EFT session will be enough to achieve a particular weight loss goal or stress eating habit changing goal. This is because we now know, via fMRI brain scans, that people who have a habit of stress eating and overeating that goes back years or decades have biological changes that have occured in in their brain. We also know that biologically rewiring these  regions of the brain  takes a series of targetted EFT sessions.

Recently, Peta Stapleton et al. conducted a study on obese adults who wanted to lose weight and were emotional eating, using fMRI brain scans. In this research,  participants underwent am eight hour Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) tapping program spanning four weeks. The brain scans were taken at the beginning and end of this four-week period while participants viewed food images, showing significant reductions in brain areas associated with food cravings after the intervention. Thus, the study involved a total of four weeks of EFT sessions, two sessions a week.
