EFT Tapping Sessions for Phobias

TAPPING WITH KIDS AND ADULTS: If you or your child are tired of an overwhelming fear, EFT Tapping sessions for phobias offer a gentle way to rewrite your body’s automatic stress response to triggers. In this post, I answer 10 questions in bite-sized videos from my YouTube Shorts series, EFT Tapping for Phobias, where you can learn more about this gentle mind-body therapy. Questions include:

  • What kinds of phobias a qualified EFT Practitioner you can trust can help you with?
  • How do EFT sessions for phobias work?
  • How many sessions are needed to clear a phobia?
  • What are some examples of the kinds of phobias you can work on with a qualified EFT Practitioner?
  • Is EFT Tapping therapy a safe modality for healing phobias?

I also share some of the studies that have been published in peer-reviewed journals where the effectiveness of EFT Tapping for phobias and intense fears was tested. Interestingly, EFT sessions were found to be more effective than breathing techniques for addressing intense fears and phobias.

What phobias can therapeutic EFT Tapping sessions help with?

RESEARCH IN PEER-REVIEWED JOURNALS

Several key studies published in peer-reviewed journals have evaluated the effectiveness of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) specifically for phobias and intense specific fears. Here are three of those studies:

  • “Evaluation of a meridian-based intervention, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), for reducing specific phobias of small animals”

    • Journal: Journal of Clinical Psychology

    • Year: 2003

    • Authors: Steve Wells, Kathryn Polglase, Henry B. Andrews, Patricia Carrington, and A. Harvey Baker

    • Details: This seminal randomized controlled trial compared a single 30-minute session of EFT to diaphragmatic breathing in participants with specific phobias of small animals (such as spiders or insects). EFT produced significantly greater improvements on both self-report measures and behavioral approach tests, with gains maintained at a 6-to-9-month follow-up.

  • “Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) Reduces Intense Fears: A Partial Replication and Extension of Wells et al. (2003)”

    • Journal: Energy Psychology: Theory, Research, and Treatment

    • Year: 2010

    • Authors: A. Harvey Baker and Linda Siegel

    • Details: This study partially replicated and extended the 2003 Wells et al. trial to assess whether gains were due to EFT specifically or nonspecific psychotherapy factors. A single 45-minute EFT session yielded significant fear reductions compared to a supportive interview and a control group, with improvements sustained at a 1.38-year follow-up.

  • “Comparing Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) to Diaphragmatic Breathing for the Reduction of Specific Phobias”

    • Journal: Explore: The Journal of Science & Healing

    • Year: 2011

    • Authors: Mahima M. Salas, Audrey J. Brooks, and Jack E. Rowe

    • Details: This study evaluated the comparative immediate effects of EFT and diaphragmatic breathing on individuals suffering from specific phobias, showing that EFT produced significantly greater reductions in phobic anxiety.
